CPC Files Plans for Refinery Expansion

The Community Preservation Corp. has filed an application with the Landmarks Preservation Commission for the conversion of the now-landmarked Domino Sugar Refinery. The application is much the same as what CPC has presented publicly in the past (although for some reason, they declined to show any of this work at the last community meeting). In the past, CPC has proposed the removal of all of the interior "structure" and the insertion of a new structural system within the masonry walls of the historic refinery. They have also proposed a large glass addition to the filter house (the taller portion of the structure, the part with the smokestack). (When last we heard, CPC was still not sure what, if anything, will happen to the sign - but that's not for Landmarks to decide.)

There is a lot more to the proposal. And it will all be presented to Community Board #1's Landmarks Committee on January 31st, at 6:30 PM. The meeting will be held at the Board's offices at 435 Graham Avenue (corner of Frost Street).

The Landmarks Commission hearing for this proposal is scheduled for February 5th.
